Alicia Elizabeth's
experience with
D.W. Redmond Academic Therapy

Ms. Deirdre has been working with me since I was in the 2nd grade. I have dyslexia and ADHD. Ms. Deirdre focused a lot on getting me to understand how sounds worked so that my reading could get stronger and I could feel more confident. I loved how Ms. Deirdre took the time to make my own personal binder full of resources and assignments that I could always go back to and use to help me while I was doing school work or was at home. My favorite assignment was a notebook that had all of my favorite pictures inside. Ms. Deirdre knew that I loved art and pictures. She had me create sentences using the sounds for the week that we were working on. This caused me to be more interested in the sentences that I was writing. She would then have me go back and build on my sentences to make them more complex. It did not feel like work because it was personal and fun. It also helped me to revisit memories that I had created with my family. School is not easy for me, but with the commitment that Ms. Deirdre made with me, has made me a hard worker that does well in school. I am going into my junior year of high school with a solid GPA and I still work with her! I want to one day be an elementary teacher working with special education students and helping them the way Ms. D has helped me!

The Parent Perspective

Working together with Deirdre Wilson Redmond was incredibly rewarding. As a mother of a child with Dyslexia, the thought of my daughter’s academic future was daunting, but

Deirdre was exceptionally supportive. She provided invaluable advice on everything from detailed techniques and study guides to daily life training models, and her organized approach ensured hope and confidence towards a smoother academic

journey. Deirdre’s guidance helped transform my daughter into a confident student to be

proud of. The attention to detail and personally customized work ethic Deirdre exhibits was particularly appreciated. Deirdre Wilson- Redmond is without reservation, highly

recommended to any parent has a child with learning-disabilities who is seeking a

professional and nurturing partner in their child’s tutoring journey.

About a parent's perspective

My name is Tracee G.  (New Jersey)

  • She is currently a school principal in New York City (The Bronx).

Ms. Deirdre has been a critical part of my daughter, Alicia's educational journey. I had suspected for quite some time that my daughter was dyslexic, but the school initially brushed it off as her being "young" for her grade. Once they were on board with understanding her needs, there wasn't support in place to enable her to grow in reading comprehension or processing. We were blessed to come across Ms. Deirdre who would not only make learning fun but also challenging. This helped Alicia to see that the expectations for her would remain high and that she had the ability to do whatever sought to do. As an educator myself, I truly appreciated that Ms. Deirdre has a clear path to learning and growth in a student. Her lessons were strategic and demonstrated strong training in Orton Gillingham as well as an instinctual ability to know what interventions were needed for Alicia. She is not just concerned with growth, however, but also mastery. I wish she could follow Alicia to college!

"I met Deirdre Wilson-Redmond a year ago, right before my son started kindergarten. Even though he had gone through two years of Head Start, I still felt he wasn’t fully prepared. My son is high-functioning autistic, and at the time he struggled with holding a pencil, spelling his name, and his math skills were behind.

I was looking for a tutor who not only had the training and patience to work with him, but who was also willing to come to us since his mom didn’t drive. After talking to several tutors, I found Deirdre—and from the very first session, I knew she was the right fit.

Deirdre was professional, organized, and always kept me in the loop about what they were working on. She gave me tips so I could continue helping him at home, which made a big difference. But what stood out most was the bond she built with my son. She knew how to connect with him in a way that made him want to learn.

In just a few short months, he accomplished more than he had in two full years of Head Start. He learned to hold a pencil correctly, spell his name, count, do addition and subtraction, and became more confident in problem solving. Honestly, his progress went beyond what I expected.

I truly believe none of this would have happened without Deirdre’s patience, skill, and the special connection she made with him. At this point, we don’t just see her as a tutor—we see her as a friend. She has been a blessing for my son and is worth every penny. I can’t imagine anyone better to help him grow."
